AI Image Abuse: Kevin Liew Featured in The Straits Times

AI image abuse

GJC Law’s Head of Crime Practice, Kevin Liew, was featured in The Straits Times commenting on the legal remedies available to victims of AI-generated image abuse and online harassment.

The article examined a case involving a Singapore man who alleged that a former schoolmate created and shared AI-generated images falsely depicting them as a couple with a child. The manipulated images, together with alleged online impersonation and fabricated posts, caused significant distress to the victim and his family.

Commenting on the legal position, Kevin explained that victims may seek protection under Singapore’s Protection from Harassment Act (POHA). Depending on the circumstances, the Act may apply to AI-generated images, online impersonation and false online publications where the conduct is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The case highlights the growing legal challenges presented by artificial intelligence and the increasing importance of legal protections against online harassment and digital abuse.
